Here is the list (alphabetized by common name) of the bird species that I have seen in my Frankfort, Kentucky, backyard, since I moved here in 2006. Click here to enjoy my fine, feathered-friends from my old, Fairfax, Virginia, home! American Goldfinch | Black-capped Chickadee | Blue Jay | Brown-headed Cowbird
Carolina Wren |
Chipping Sparrow |
Crow |
House Sparrow | House Wren | Killdeer | Mourning Dove | Northern Flicker | Northern Mockingbird | Pileated Woodpecker | Red-bellied Woodpecker | Red Cardinal Ruby-throated Hummingbird | Slate-colored Junco | Southwestern Willow Flycatcher | ||
|
Possible new sightings, but only glimpsed them for a second: House Finch (July 2009) I can't identify this bird! (May 2009) I thought it was a tufted titmouse, but there's no tuft, and it's slightly larger than the ones I've seen!

I went outside to enjoy the crisp, early morning air, and was stunned to see these three birds sitting on my neighbor's feeder! They didn't seem alarmed by my presence, and even waited, patiently, while I snapped a few pix! Click here to see new photos! |

I'm not sure whether that's a strip of bark or a worm in its mouth. |

(the "bird feeder" is actually an emptied and cleaned 64 oz juice bottle with tiny slots cut near the bottom; it's easy to go green!) Click here for possible female red-bellied woodpecker |
