Birds in my Backyard
("BIMBY" for short!)

Currently "nesting" in Frankfort, Kentucky!

Updated  February 8, 2010 12:14am EST

Here is the list (alphabetized by common name)
of the bird species that I have seen
in my Frankfort, Kentucky, backyard,
since I moved here in 2006.

Click here to enjoy my fine, feathered-friends
from my old, Fairfax, Virginia, home!

  American Goldfinch   |   Black-capped Chickadee   |   Blue Jay |   Brown-headed Cowbird

Carolina Wren   |   Chipping Sparrow   |   Crow   |     Downy Woodpecker   |   European Starling

House Sparrow   |   House Wren   |   Killdeer   |   Mourning Dove   |   Northern Flicker   |

Northern Mockingbird |   Pileated Woodpecker |   Red-bellied Woodpecker |   Red Cardinal

  Ruby-throated Hummingbird |   Slate-colored Junco   |   Southwestern Willow Flycatcher

  Titmouse   |   Turkey Vulture

Possible new sightings, but only glimpsed them for a second:

House Finch (July 2009)

I can't identify this bird! (May 2009)
I thought it was a tufted titmouse,
but there's no tuft,
and it's slightly larger than the ones I've seen!

Food Rules!

Due to problems with clean-up and vermin, I have, regretfully, decided not to put up my birdfeeder this year, but I have plenty of seed left over from last year, so I'll spread that on the lawn in the back of my apartment complex, far away from the building, but only after heavy snows.

American Goldfinch (2008/2008/2009)

I went outside to enjoy the crisp, early morning air,
and was stunned to see these three birds
sitting on my neighbor's feeder!
They didn't seem alarmed by my presence,
and even waited, patiently,
while I snapped a few pix!
